Amidst the ongoing India-Pakistan tensions, following the cessation of hostilities, the Baramulla police have been informed of the presence of twenty unexploded ordnances (UXOs) in around 17 villages across the district, according to a statement.
Taking the situation around the border region seriously, the district administration of Baramulla has permitted the evacuees from six villages out of 17 to return to their homes and stay safe.
“Baramulla Police has been intimated about the presence of 20 unexploded ordnances (UXOs) in 17 villages across the district. Consequent to their safe disposal, the district administration has permitted evacuees from these 6 villages to return,” Baramulla Police stated in their official statement, reported news agency ANI.
Earlier, the Indian Armed Forces conducted several strikes at the nine major terror camps associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The attacks were a retaliation to the terrorist camps after they took 26 innocent civilian lives in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025. The retaliation was under the name of Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7 under a joint operation by the Indian Air Force and the Indian military.
Five of the nine terror camps were located in PoK, and the other four in Pakistan.
Among the destroyed camps in Pakistan, two of those, Muridke and Bhawalpur, stand out more, as they not only serve as residences for major commanders but also serve as epicentres for radicalisation and various training courses on intelligence and arms handling for Lashkar as well as Jaish-e-Mohammad. Among the key terror operatives eliminated in the operation was Rauf Azhar, the brother-in-law of Maulana Masood Azhar, the Jaish Chief. Rauf Azhar, a proscribed terrorist, is wanted for his part in the conspiracy to hijack IC-814.
According to ANI, two of the demolished camps in Pakistan, Muridke and Bhawalpur, are particularly noteworthy since they not only house important commanders but also act as hubs for radicalisation and different intelligence. These camps, along with being an important planning and intelligence centre for the terrorists, were also used as a hub for keeping weapons and handling training programmes for Laskar and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). JeM Chief Maulana Masood Azhar`s brother-in-law, Rauf Azhar, was one of the important terrorists killed in the operation. However, wanted terrorist Rauf Azhar is wanted for his involvement in the IC-814 hijacking plot.
Meanwhile, the Indian armed forces also went on to conduct a joint press briefing in New Delhi on Sunday which consisted of Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai (Director General of Military Operations), Vice Admiral A N Pramod (Director General Naval Operations), and Air Marshal A K Bharti (Director General Air Operations).
During the press briefing the officials confirmed that India has struck 11 airbases in Pakistan and inflicted significant damage on their military capabilities. The officials jointly announced the success of “Operation Sindoor“, which is a cross-border counter-terror operation aimed at neutralising terror infrastructure inside Pakistan.
Addressing the situation, the defence officials also stated that amid the India-Pakistan tensions, we eliminated over 100 terrorists. The air, land and sea operations were carried out with calibrated restraint, emphasising minimising civilian casualties.
This development comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan following India`s recent military operation, Operation Sindoor, which targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people. The Indian military launched precision strikes on nine terrorist infrastructure locations, including militant camps in Muzaffarabad, Kotli, and Bahawalpur.
