A 27-year-old man, Dhila Rajesh Hamira Bhai, has tragically lost his life in Mumbai at Mumbai Central Station near platform number 4, while attempting to alight from a train on the wrong side.
Eyewitnesses said that instead of exiting safely, he tried to leap over the iron fence separating the platform from the tracks. In the process, his neck got caught in the fencing, resulting in fatal injuries.
Emergency services arrived at 10:14 am, and declared him dead at the scene. His body was subsequently taken to Nair Hospital for postmortem examination.
Mumbai: 22-year man injured after falling from moving local train during rush hour at Bandra Station
In a similar and equally concerning incident, a 22-year-old youth, Shatrughna Kanojia, sustained serious head injuries after falling off a moving local train at Bandra station. The mishap occurred during the peak rush hour, a time when platforms are usually crowded with daily commuters heading home.
A senior inspector with Bandra Government Railway Police (GRP), Nandakumar Khadkikar, said that Kanojia lost his balance while attempting to get off the moving train. “Fortunately, he fell on the platform and not in between the platform and the tracks. Alert bystanders quickly informed the railway authorities, who rushed to the scene and arranged for medical assistance,” said Khadkikar.
Police officials confirmed that the injured passenger, Shatrughna Kanojia, was initially rushed to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra for emergency medical treatment shortly after the incident. On arrival, the hospital staff provided immediate care and attempted to stabilise his condition. However, it was soon determined that Bhabha Hospital lacked the necessary CT scan facilities, a critical diagnostic tool required to assess the full extent of head injuries, especially when internal trauma is suspected.
Hospital sources confirmed that the patient’s father is employed at Nair Hospital, and thus, his elder brother requested that he be shifted there.
“Shatrughna is stable and is responding. Since a CT scan is a must in such cases, he has been shifted to Nair Hospital,” said an on-duty medical officer.
Thane: Stray cattle run over by local train near Mumbra; services hit
Earlier in May, a fast local train on its way to Kalyan struck a stray cattle near Mumbra railway station, resulting in the animal`s immediate death. The impact was severe, and the force of the collision caused the carcass to become lodged in the wheels of the train.
The accident led to a major disruption in rail services after the carcass of the buffalo became entangled in the wheels of the local train.
This caused the train to come to a sudden halt near Thane station, triggering delays across the route. The incident affected the movement of several trains.
